Land Rover Repair: Disco 2 - Intermittant Misfire, air flow meter, vacuum gauge

Question
Hi Nigel
My LR has been in the repair shop four times and they cannot find the fault. The problem is an intermittent misfire under load i.e. worse when going uphill. Misfire causes motor to shake, and if you continue to accelerate then there is no power. Need to pullover and switchoff or let motor return to normal idle. Sometimes motor will also cutout. Have now had Plugs, HT Leads and Petrol Pump replaced. Air Flow meter and coils were tested. Repair shop convinced it is electronic. They are now checking the injectors and cleaned corrosion from computer plugs etc.

Any advise as to what else might be causing the problem.

Thanks

Hashiem

Answer
The main problems with misfires in these cars are coils, plug wires and crank sensor.  From your description, it could quite possibly be a blocked exhaust, although I would not rule out coils either.  For the exhuast you can check with a vacuum gauge when under load.
