Land Rover Repair: Head Gasket, head gasket replacement, white smoke

Recently purchase a 2000 Disco II 103000 miles. Started hearing a tapping sound from the top of the engine. Changed oil and added a bottle of Lucus. Tapping stop. Now I'm getting white smoke and coolant smell from exhaust. Coolant below full level. Also heat has been working fine until this morning.  Blowing cold until driven for about 10 miles. I'm I looking at head gasket replacement or possibly more?
