Land Rover Repair: 1999 Range Rover 4.6 Transmission, mass airflow sensor, trans fluid

Question
My truck has lost some power. While driving the engine revs high but I am not really moving fast. Then it will jump in and catch up. Sometimes when I reverse the vehicle is slow to reverse also. A humming sound is also present off and on. No gearbox faults though took it to the dealer and was told that I need to replace the mass airflow sensor to correct it. And the Trans fluid and filter was changed recently. Just wanted a second opinion doesnt it sound like the transmission needs to be replaced?

Answer
I have to assume that the dealer said it needs an air mass meter because it flagged the relevant trouble codes.  You may as well address this known problem first.  I don't think your symptoms are related to this, however.

Most transmission faults would flag a code.  I would not immediately assume that you need a new transmission, especially without codes.  Perhaps you have a faulty filter or your fluid levels are low.  I can't really diagnose it without codes and without being able to test drive the vehicle to really see what you are talking about.
