Land Rover Repair: 2002, Freelander 2.6 V6 (U.S.A. model), hydraulic lifters, flow sensor

Question
Hi Nigel,

Been having an issue with a P0305 (cyl 5 misfire) code on my Freelander. Seems to come on when idling or when the engine is cool.. and then clears when the car is warm or after running for a while. Every now and then it will also set P1472..

I have changed the coild pack for cyl 5, swapped the injector (3 & 5) and have just replaced the MAF flow sensor.. seems to have improved things and have not seen the P1472 code come back but did have the P0305 come on after a couple of days and then go off again after shutting down and re-starting an hour or so later..

No sure where to look next, any idea's..  I did swap around the HT cables just in case that made a difference and it did not seem too..

Thanks, Steve

Answer
Try to do a compression test and check to see if there are is any coolant on the spark plugs.  Also, I don't see that you changed the spark plug, you could try doing this.  Depending on mileage, try chemical decoke in case there are sticking valves.  Also do a thorough engine oil flush - hydraulic lifters often sludge up and get overpumped.
