Land Rover Repair: VEHICLE OBDII COMPLIANCE, land rover discovery 2, land rover discovery

Question
Hi John,
Thank you for the regulars on the land rovers, it is quite informative. I have a land rover discovery 2 td5 1999 model. Is this vehicle OBDII(AUTOTAP) compliant? I am tempted to buy the AUTOTAP to help diagnose faults on my vehicle. This sounds like a good thing, but am afraid of purchasing the tool before knowing for sure it will work on my vehicle.
Please help

Answer
Hi Gift Tobaiwa,

actually, your Td5 complies with the OBDII standard of diagnostic messages.  The Autotap device you mention should be able to read and reset the generic messages generated by all manufacturers.  However, ther will be some LR specific features that generic scanners may not read.  These features are made available to a select few scanners (I wonder why???):

SRS, ABS, ETC, HDC, TRACS, EAS, ETC, ACC, SLABS and BECM

My guess is that they want you to visit the dealerships to repair and reset these features.

I believe all OBDII readers should have the ability to reset the MIL (check engine), monitor the emissions and most of the Engine Management System (EMS) and maybe some of the transmission faults.

Contact Autotap and ask them what they can do for your Land Rover:

Best of luck,

NB: I checked out the above website and it looks like a good scanner.  I like the virtual dashboad feature they offer.
