Land Rover Repair: 98 Disco Rear Door Knob, door lock actuator, gravity

Question
I have a 98 disco 3 and the back loading door knob won't stay up. The motor for the central locking operates correctly, but the knob just flops back down again under gravity. You can pull it up and down freely and the door can be opened and shut no problem

Answer
Hi Dave,

sounds like the rear door lock actuator will have to be replaced. The weight of the rod link and the inner "Y" lever (part of the lock mechanism) is too much for the actuator to maintain.  The actuator can push up the rod but not maintain the position.

You could try a used/salvaged one to save costs but they are all prone to failure over time.    Ask most LR owners and they'll confirm this.
