Land Rover Repair: 1994 LR Disco, o2 sensors, pitman arm

Question
Recently acquired (Monday) 1994 LR Disco Auto trans 136K miles.  Didn't pick up a what appears to be running rich situation on the test drive.  Only shows up when engine gets to operating temp.  When accelerating from a stop the engine starts to misfire and sounds like an old buick with a bad carb.  I have replaced spark plugs, cap and rotor, air filter, and changed engine oil and filter.  I validated ignition timing at 6 to 7 degrees BTDC this evening.  Live at 4500 ft elevation.  I am leaning toward a bad MAF or O2 sensors.  Hoping for O2 sensors.  Is there a way for me to test each component? seems like I have read that the 1994 and 95's has this capability before OBDII?

Can you also fill me in on the pitman arm rod end and diagnostics?

Thanks for your help.

Dave

Answer
The factory workshop manual is available from Rovers North or Atlantic British, or online at www.landrovertechinfo.com  It contains step by step instructions to test those components with a regular multimeter.

On the pitman arm, you just look for any free play.  If there's play, it's worn out.
