Land Rover Repair: tire pressure, proper inflation, tire shop

Question
For a 2000 Discovery, P255/70R16 tires, what tire pressure is recommended? In the manual it says front -28lb f/in (2 like squared)? rear 38 lb f/in (2)I don't know what this actually means. Dumb question, I know, but I just got new tires and thought I should have them at the proper inflation. Thanks so much.

Answer
the tire pressure is basically how much air is crammed into the tire, when you check the pressure the gage should read out in PSI (lbf/in2), which is Pounds Force per Inch squared.  28 PSI means that the air is pushing out on the tire at an ammount equal to 28 pounds on every square inch of the tire.

The manual gives a suggested range, go with the pressure the tire shop tells you to use.
