Land Rover Repair: air compressor for range rover hse 4.6 96, EAS Buddy, compressor failure

Question
i was driving, suddenly the air compressor stop working. truck went all the way down can not drive past 35 mph. compressor is working if i do it manually, but seems compressor has no power. what do you think?

Answer
This is (unfortunately) a common problem with the aging range rovers.  As the system ages the airsprings and orings will begin to leak and the compressor seal will wear.  The leaks will add to the wear on the compressor until it cannot keep up.  The computer will detect that the compressor isn't working and stop it to prevent damage beyond normal wear.

With any RR older than a '99 I recommend a full overhaul:

After fitting that you will need to re-set the ECU to restore normal operation.  There are several options available now, one is a free program for download:

The EAS Buddy is a great little tool to have in your glove-box:

both the software and Buddy were designed/built by a friend of mine that is an electronics wizard.
