Land Rover Repair: Steering Shake at 50mph, ball joints, wheel speed

Question
2000 Range Rover - Serious shake/ vibration at 50 mph - not before or after - Tires checked out ok - could it be a steering shock? - thanks

Answer
Hi Brian,

Steering shakes like that can be hard to track down.  I doubt it's the steerig damper, since a well tuned suspension shouldn't need one at all (from what I've read, I've never tried it).  Since a tire-balance didn't help the next thing to check is the condition of all your ball-joints, one loose one can cause a vibration with just the right wheel speed.

Your shock-absorbers may be on the way out as well, give them a thorogh check over.  It may be a combination of small issues that work together just right to cause a bigger issue, so don't be alarmed if you have to fix several small issues.
