Land Rover Repair: thermostat, coolant line, thermostat

Question
where is the thermostat located on a 95 discovery?  i just started overheating and i want to see if the thermostat is sticking or if it needs to be replaced but i don't know where it is.  ( i have no manual )  after i turn off my car, a fan blows for anywhere from 1 minute to 8 minutes.  i have never had this happen before.  it has been doing it for about a week but i never showed hot, today the gauge showed hot for the first time.  cannot afford to let things get crazy, what should i do??

Answer
The thermostat is in the coolant line near the bottom of the radiator, looks like a big plastic octopus, not your standard thermostat.

Check the water level first, and definately do not let it overheat, the aluminum Rover block does not tolerate overheating very well.  If it does overheat shut it off IMMEDIATELY, even before you've got to the side and stopped, as long as you can do it safely (better to wreck your engine than the whole truck).
