Land Rover Repair: Upper Intake Plenum replacement, intake plenum, atlanta ga area

I own a 2003 LR-Freelander with 67,000 miles on it. I have noticed a rattling noise when I start the car. it appears to be coming from the engine. I took it to a local dealer, and was informed that the upper intake plenum needs to be replaced. They told me the problem will affect my fuel consumption. The dealer quoted be a price of $1700.00 dollars for parts and labour. Is this a reasonable cost? can you recommend an independent certified mechanic in the Atlanta, GA area who can do the job for less? Also last year I had to replace the engine block due to warped head gaskets. Could this have anything to do with the upper intake plenum replacement problem? Please advise, any help would be greatly appreciated.

the upper plenum would have been removed and re-installed with the block change out, if it is now acting up it should have been caught with the previous rebuild BUT I can't see how the plenum would be bad, the gasket maybe.  $1700 is way too expensive for a gasket job.
