Land Rover Repair: 2002 Disco Series II, initial code, condition thanks

Question
Hi John,

My SES light illuminates, I have had all plugs, wires and coils replaced with a fuel induction. The initial code was 02 sensor and Cyl 1 misfire. After I had the work completed it continued to misfire. I had all four sensors replaced, and it continues to misfire. SES still on and occasionally will blink. I'm at a loss!!

Could the alternator be causing the problem? I've taken good care of it. 75,000 miles very good condition.

Thanks
James

Answer
If all the ignition parts are new and it still fouls on #1, I would test for carbon fouling.  There's an article on that on my website.  Repair requires cylinder head removal, so it's kind of a big deal.  But that's the next likely area if indeed the ignition parts are new and correctly installed.

FWIW, a fuel injector failure will not cause a blinking engine light, so that's pretty much ruled out too.
