Land Rover Repair: 2000 disco II abs/tc/hd lights on, chicagoland area, 3 amigos

Question
hi john, a little over a year ago, the abs/tc/hd lights came on and i had the dealership fix the problem.  the lights came back on recently. when i start the engine, the lights come back on, but there are no warning chimes.  any idea if this is something to be seriously worried about?  i'd really like to avoid going to the dealership to save some money.  do you know of any independent landrover mechanics in the chicagoland area?  thanks!

Answer
Hi Debbie,

like the movie saying goes, "They're baaack".  This is a really annoying problem for LR owners.  However, I read recently that LR has finally solved the mystery as to why the '3 amigos' keep coming back to haunt us.   Apparently, one owner reported that the ABS modulator has been 'redesigned' and it seems to fix the problem - permanently.

I'm not convinced (having gone several times for my ABS) but this owner was told that new ABS modulators have the fix and he's convinced the 3 amigos are vamenose.  He said to make sure that the date of manufacture was for this year.  I hope this is true.

If a new modulator is too much, you may have to confirm that its not fouled sensor tips or corroded wire/harness for the sensors.  A LR mechanic may be able to help.

You might consider going back to where it was repaired and seeing if they'll repair the repair or at least give you a big discount - since their repair only lasted a year or so.

Here's a Chicago independent you consider:

Red's Frame and Axle

You could also try Motor works.  They are outside the city but they may be able to help you:

Best of luck,
