Land Rover Repair: Oil Leak, auto service center, oil issues

Question
I had my 2004 discovery in for seat replacement in December, and for some reason, they did an oil chaneg even though it had just been done in November. The service gal said it was dirty(?). I drove it approximatey 1200 miles over the month of jan-feb and parked it for march while out of town. I notice dil on my garge floor, and when I checked the oil, it was down about two quarts. I took it to the good year center, and they noticed the oil leaking, and stated that I had a leak in my lower intake maniflod, and they were not able to fix it there, I should go to the dealer. They stimated the price in the Thousands, does this sound possible? I spoke with a guy at the a local british auto service center, and he thought that sounded very high and was suspect. He asked me to bring it in, what are your thought? The Good year teck further alarmed me , by warning me if there was coolant in my oil, I should sell the car, before I have engin failure- very confused! Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Michael

Answer
An intake manifold oil leak is a $1,000 repair at many dealers.  But there are other possibilities in the same area, some more expensive.  We do repairs like that all the time - very common.

Land Rovers seldom have coolant in oil issues.

I suggest you have someone with the proper skill evaluate the car.  Those other people are just guessinig.
