Land Rover Repair: 96 disco with a slew of problems, key less entry, gas tanks

Question
I have had my disco for about three years, and over that time it has been a great vehicle for the most part. My discovery has a manual transmission, and when I shift from first to second and the rpms are above 2000 it grinds. What makes it do that? My second question is when i go to lock my truck with the key less entry it does not lock the lights light up like it would be locking so it is censoring it. when i go to unlock it works fine. Last when i am getting the recall on the gas tank the mechanic said that the fuel pump will probably go out, so he recommended that I go a head and get a new one. Is this true or just a money making thing to get back on the gas tanks.

Thank you,
Seth Moore

Answer
First, the grinding is probably a problem within the transmission.  They were known for that.  It's possible it's a clutch issue but I'd put 8 or 10 odds on the transmission

Second, the locks . . . you need a shop with an autologic or t4 system to diagnose the alarm.  Anything else is just guessing and you won't be able to complete anything because you can't recode it.

Third, the fuel pump is always recommended when the tank is removed because they do indeed wear out and it's  logical to change it before it fails if the tank is out anyway.
