Land Rover Repair: super locked out, rear view mirror, alarm mode

Question
I just changed the battery in my 01' range rover; and when I reconnected the battery cable the security system was on super lock, and the buttons on the key were unresponsive. I've read about this happening to other people, but I haven't found a solution to this problem that has worked yet. I highly doubt that something just decided to break in the 20 minutes that it took me to replace the old battery. Any advice you could give me would be great. Thank you~

Answer
Hi Andrew,

One owner wrote and said "...the main wire that connects right on top of the starter just comes loose..." a simple reconnection is needed.

Another owner wrote that that if you lock and unlock the driver side door it should reset things for you.

Try shifting the gears thru and returning to park.  Then restart the engine.  Can you start while in neutral?

Could the original cause of replacing your battery have finally kicked in?  Most causes are corrosion of main lead to starter.

Do you see "alarm fault" when you turn the key on? Here are the Alarm LED states / light flashes

Alarm LED
The alarm LED is installed in the red knob on the underside of the interior rear view mirror to provide a visual indication of the alarm system status. Operation of the LED is controlled by the BCU.

Alarm System Status Indications / Alarm Mode Alarm LED :

Disarmed / Off

Armed / Flashes at 0.5 Hz (slow flashing)

Arming / Rapid flashing for 10 seconds maximum, then begins flashing at 0.5 Hz.

Alarm triggered / Rapid flashing for 5 minutes then continues flashing at 0.5 Hz.

Re-arming / less than 10 seconds after disarming On for 1 second

Disarming / Off

Disarming after alarm / Rapid flashing for 10 seconds then off

Emergency disarming / On for 10 minutes

Vehicle locked (alarm not coded in BCU) / On for 10 seconds

Unauthorised engine start detected by immobilisation system / Rapid flashing until immobilisation system deactivated

Hope this helps,
