Land Rover Repair: landrover alarm, key fobs, landrover discovery

Question
I have a 99 landrover discovery I that I bought used. It only came with a plain key so I went to the dealership to get a remote programmed. They told me they were having problems programming the remote and then found a blown fuse that seemed to fix the problem. It worked fine so I got in the car and drove home. By the time I go home and went to lock the car, the remote no longer worked. Once the car was shut off it will no longer start and it seems as though the alarm is stuck on. The horn continues to honk. I have tried every thing to get the horn to stop and get the car going again. I checked all the fuses and found one in the alarm slot that was blown, I changed that but it didn't change anything. I have tried locking the doors with the key waiting 1 minute and unlocking the car with the key it still will not start. With the alarm fuses out and the door lock fuse out, the car will turn over with the alarm sounding, but will not start. I have had to take out the horn fuse until I can get it repaired. I am trying to avoid having it towed to the dealership. Any advise would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Kate,

clearly there is a problem that the dealer has to address.  If you bought a remote from them they may not have reprogrammed it properly.  Sometimes two key fobs are required to reprogram as part of the sequences.

Here's a website that describes some EKA procedures that might help you out:

Yes, its for Range Rovers but sometimes DISCO owners have been successful with the same EKA procedure.  Emergency Key access.

Note: if you live in N.America the EKA procedure is different and listed on the above website.

I hope this helps,
