Towing Issues: Towing issues, small claims court, storage fees

Question
I know you don't have a lot of knowledge on towing fees, according to your info, however, do you know where a person kind find out the law, limitations or statutes? I live in Gilbert Arizona. My situation is I got permission to park a vehicle on private property but my vehicle, (an RV actually), was accidentally towed. The fee to get it out is $480, which I don't have right now... I have the RV for sale and asked if I could pay part now and part in 30 days...   A story was just done on the news about the fact that a tow company can't hold your vehicle "hostage"...so..when I mentioned that to the tow company, they said yes, I can pick it up but if I don't pay them back in full, within 24 hours they will tack on $500 more.(They said I will have to sign a promissory note to pick the RV up agreeing to this additional fee).. I was shocked. So, if I leave it there, it accrues storage fees, if I pick it up to save myself the storage fees, they only give me 24 hours to pay in full or charge me $500. How is this possible? Someone must know something. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Answer
Well I remember seeing the story come across the Internet also, and it was dealing with vehicles towed from Private Property like yours was. And it was from Tempe Arizona also.

Now as to the extra fee of $500.00 I am not sure about that issue, but I still have a problem with letting vehicles go without receiving payment (personally).
It does sound like a big mistake on it being towed, and in a real world the property owner (who hopefully had it towed) would have made things right with the tow company. I would see what the person who give you permission to park there could do to help in this case.

Worse case is pay the fees and then go to small claims court and sue the person who ordered the tow and the tow company(who was following orders) for the fees.
