Land Rover Repair: 98 Disco tranny problem?, broken shaft, clunk

Question
Hi there.  I recently bought a 98 LR DISCO LSE.  i was driving it this evening and that's when i noticed a "clunking" sound underneath at the moment of acceleration and at the moment of deceleration.  sounds like there's loose linkage.  any suggestions?  Thanks!  -Ian

Answer
The clunk could mean the front driveshaft u-joints are coming apart.  If they blow up while you are driving the broken shaft could smash the transmission, and cause $5,000+ in damage.  So check it out right away.

There are other possibilities too . . . spider gear cage failure, general driveline wear . . I urge you to check this out right away.
