Land Rover Repair: Range Rover P38 Fuse and Blower Motor Problem, p38 range rover, range rover p38

Question
I have a 1998 P38 Range Rover that has a problem.  On the Instrument

Cluster LCD display it reads "Fuse 20 Failed".  When I replace the fuse under

the passenger seat access panel (which is a 30A), it only takes a short while

and the fuse blows once again.  There must be a short from what I can tell

but I have no clue where to start looking to fix the problem.  Any help would

be much appreciated.

There is also a whirring noise coming from the area behind the HVAC panel

which I suspect is the blower motor as it changes pitch/speed when I turn

the AC controls from low to high.  Does the blower motor need to be

lubricated and if so how do I access it.  Or is the blower motor just

beginning to fail and that's why it is making noise?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
The first thing you'll need is a wiring diagram for your truck.  You can purchase printed electrical troubleshooting manuals, or you can buy a day's access to Land Rover's official site, www.landrovertechinfo.com and download them.

If you are patient, downloading will be cheaper as a day's access is less than $20 USD most places in the world and the print books are over $150 USD most places.

Anyway, find the circuit in question and begin disconnecting the items on that circuit until your short goes away.  If all the devices are disconnected then you've got a short in the wiring or you've misread the diagram.

And if the blower is noisy it's going bad . . . access is under the dash, the same online reference has step by step instructions
