Land Rover Repair: 8/98 LR disco v8 4.0L, haynes repair manual, cylinder compression

Hello John, I just purshesed this car and have no history on it, seller tall me that as he think it got overheating problem, after investiganting by my self and my tech we found out that problem is water pump , we replaced that and car was driving with no problem intill oil light start blink  after we drove 10-15 mls  and after 5min knoking noise start . now i personaly think we have some problem with oil supply to engine possible causes cloget oil pump, but i better have some suggestions from you thanx dan.

Hi Dan,

could be a blown headgasket.  This has been known to be a problem with this vehicle.  You should have cylinder compression test performed to determine if this is true.

Its rare to have trouble with the oil pump.  I've not seen many in all the years I've been helping other LR owners.  It still may be possible.

Make sure you are having proper ignition spark, fuel feed and compression.  These are easy to determine and may save you time in solving this problem.
