Land Rover Repair: Main bearing 94 Disco, main bearing cap, oil seals

On my 94 disco 300 diesel i appear to have a oil leak on the two cap oil seals on number 5 main bearing cap, is it possible to take off the cap through the sump to renew them or do i have to take the engine out ? the manual is not very clear hope you can help me

Hi Arthur,

I took a look at the engine ovehaul manual and it seems you can get to it with the sump off.  To be sure, goto www.discoweb.org and post this question in the Disco bulletin board section.  On this website, there are experienced DIY'er who have done this exact repair.
