Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler K321 Carburetor, excess fuel, fuel inlet

Question
When trying to start my tractor this spring, the gas shoots out a hole in the carb and floods the engine.  Even to the point of starting on fire!!!  Is it the float that is stuck or what.  I tried to adjust the main fuel intake but still came out the same place.  What do you think?

Answer
Yes, it could be the float, or the fuel inlet needle.Take it apart and have a look.  A common occurrence is that some water is present in the carb, and over winter the carb freezes, and the float is crushed, still floating, but not high enough to shut off the fuel
flow.
Or else the needle is just stuck from varnished fuel, and taking the carb apart and cleaning is all that is needed.
Make sure the excess fuel has not gotten into your engine oil, if it has, you should change it before running the engine, after fixing
the carb.
