Land Rover Repair: Rear Windows 98 LR Disco, auto electrician, door switches

Question
The rear windows are both stuck. The problem was intermittent and on both windows, if right didn't work left wouldn't either, now they are dead. I have tried every fuse, took the front face plate off changed the switches, disabled the child lock, I have no idea what I am missing...any ideas?

Answer
Hi David,

you could try applying 12 volts to the window motor to raise them if they are stuck OPEN.

Use a multi-meter to see if the motors are getting any voltage.  Could be the BCU that is locking out the windows.  Could be the window motors, the central switch even the front door switches (driver and passenger).

Window and door lock problems are awful and can be labour intensive to resolve.  I wish you all the best in fixing this.

I once was told of a fellow who by-passed the windows away from the security system and direct wired them (battery, switch, window actuator).  Not sure exactly how he did it but he was so fed up with trying to fix the problem, he decided to reengineer the window controls.  A local auto electrician may be able to help you with this.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
