Land Rover Repair: Door/ Latch Problem - 95 Disco, door latch, push rod

Question
I know most people have had door problems on the disco 95. The driver door only opens when I pull the lock mechanism up. Is there a spring or something missing? Is it an easy fix? THanks!

Answer
Hi George,

I had that problem on my '95.  There are one spring and an assortment of linkage rods and a latch mechanism that is prone to gum up and stick.  There is a plastic push rod that can actually soften with age.   (no joking!!)

If you are having this problem, a thorough cleaning and lub of the latch may help - at least for awhile.  I would suggest replacing the door latch and the plastic push rod.  Remove the door panel and observe the pushrod to determine if its bending down as it pushes against the plate.

Its a knucklebuster job as the area within the door holes is tight!  If you elect to lube and adjust the linkage rods, it can be tedious.  I know of one rod that is threaded (long upright from lock tab).

Dealer offered me $120 plus parts for just one door.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
