Land Rover Repair: LR DISCO SERIES 2I TD5/7 2001- FUEL LEAK, diesel fuel, diesel engine

Question
Have completed 112,000 kms and have diesel dripping from the Diesel Fuel Regulator. Is there a service kit for this unit (simply replacement of gasket/seals) or will the whole unit need replacement? Also when would you recommend servicing and / or replacement of injectors. Engine continues to run well.

Regards

Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,

I looked around to see if a kit was available but did not find any.  I'm sure you could get 'o' rings and gaskets from the dealer.  As for servicing the injectors, if your fuel source is unknown and the quality may be suspect, I'd consider testing the injectors annually.  You can buy a fuel injector test light ('noid lights') at most auto shops and they are not expensive - less than $50.  Here's one I found online: http://www.tooldesk.net/ATD_5612.html

I don't have a diesel engine but I had my fuel injection cleaned twice in 12 years.  I think you have it done every 5 years or so. It really depends on the quality of fuel and how you drive your vehicle.
