Land Rover Repair: Range Rover 4.0 would not re start , I need to wait 20 minutes+ to re start, proper test equipment, engine management system

Question
I have a 1999 Range rover 4.0 , The problem I am having is that the car starts  &  drives and if  I turn the engine off it wouldnt start again. I would need to wait for 20 -30 minutes to get the engine going. Why  ?

Answer
Hi Mark,

this sounds like a temperature sensor problem.  It's possible that data from a faulty sensor or wiring (?) has been interpreted incorrectly by the engine management system (EMS).  The difficulty is to determine which sensor is sending the error - IF it is a sensor fault. It's also possible that a component, much like a fuel pump, has faulted and is complicating the EMS process.

A mechanic with the proper test equipment (LR's Testbook) should be able to locate the general area of trouble.  An experienced LR mechanic, with years of working with such vehicles, should be able to locate the problem even faster.

Best of luck,
