Land Rover Repair: looking to buy 91 hunter. some questions., temp gauge, heater blower

Question
Hi John.  Thanks for taking the time to look at this.  I am looking into buying a 91 Range Rover Hunter.  These did not have the EAS, so that's one less thing for me to worry about.  Also does not have leather and electonic seat controls.  No problem.  I started the car and there is a ticking under the hood.  Sounds like a lifter.  Runs strong, I am just wondering how much this could cost me in the future.  Also, the heater blower motor is out, is this hard to get to?  I suspect it's under or behind the dash.  Owner said car runs warm, but the temp gauge was right in the middle today and it was 90 degrees outside.  Thermostat and radiator are no problem for me.  How hard is water pump?  It's got 195000 miles, but good service records.  I don't have tons of money to dump into this.  Is it the right car for me?

Thanks again for your time.

Terry

Answer
Unless you have extrordinary do it yourself abilities, no 195,000 mile Rover is right for someone who does not have tons of money.

The heater blower is an 8 hour job, and motors are available from Atlantic British, 800 533 2210

The ticking - could be a leak in the exhaust manifolds, a lifter problem, a broken catalyst . . . many possibilities
