Land Rover Repair: Cruise control problem, vacuum hoses, vacuum diagrams

Question
Hi John, I bought my 97 Disco V8i Auto about 3 years ago. Right from the start the cruise control would just stop especially when going over bumps. I then could just press button on steering wheel and it would go again. 18 months later it got worse and would not work all the time but the light on the dash engagement button was on. It would work only now and then but turn off in afew minutes or 20. Now it wonnt work at all. Have checked all fuses.I realise there is a Neutral Lockout relay in the lower right side, could that be old and faulty and now dead. The Actuator looks ok. Could it be the Vacuum Pump ? If you have any clues and how to test I would appreciate it as I miss my Cruise Control. Thankyou

Answer
The wires in the steering column may be bad, or the ecu may be bad. Splitting vacuum hoses are a possibility, too.  I am sorry to say there is no computerized diagnostic for the cruise in your model, and you just have to get the wiring and vacuum diagrams and puzzle it out.
