Land Rover Repair: Limp home mode engaged 02 Disco, vehicle speed sensor, cam shaft position sensor

Question
2002 V6 gasoline,Freelander. Goes into Rovers classic "Life Saver Mode" or Limp Home Mode, consistently above 3K RPM / 67 - 72 MPH. Vehicle restart cures problem until it next exceeds 3000 RPM. At 2700 - 2800 RPM has never happened. A friend accessed engine codes 1471 & 1472, could these have a bearing on problem. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Ward,

could be a number of things;  cam shaft position sensor, fuel pump, O2 sensors, even VSS (vehicle speed sensor).  The code you mention states:

P1471 Land Rover Variable inlet manifold motor 1.Short circuit to V Batt. (vehicle battery?).

P1472 Land Rover Variable inlet manifold motor 2.Short circuit to V Batt.

I suspect it could be an electrical short with one of the sensors.  Someone suggested you have your fuel pressure checked.

I hope this helps.
