Land Rover Repair: A/C Condensor fans, vacuum problem, fuse box

Question
Dennis,
My girlfriend has a 1998 Discovery and when you turn the a/c on, it starts to overheat.  She had a local mechanic check it out and he said that both of the condensor fans were bad.  I feel that it may be a  sensor or something else...is there a way to check the fans out or any sensors in the circuit?  Also, the engine idles very high and I have replaced the idle control valve and MAF...any oter ideas?

Answer
The easiest way to test the fans is with a Rovacom system.  barring that you can find the relays in the fuse box for the fans and jumper them according to the diagram on the relay.  Do the fans come on when the engine is idling and the a/c is on?

Usually idle problems on LR's are a low idle, which is typically a vacuum problem or similar.  I've not heard of a high idle before.  One of the others here would probably have a better answer for you.
