Land Rover Repair: 2001 land rover discovery, land rover discovery, mass airflow sensor

Question
Hi
I just bought a lr discovery, and I took it for a test drive for the first time, and it felt like I could not go over 50mph.  It felt so weird.  What could that be?? A transmition problem??

Answer
Hi Ana,

there could be a number of different reasons.

It be sticking exhaust valves, headgasket leak, vacuum leak, old spark plugs and wires, coilpack problem, low fuel pressure, fouled air filter, mass airflow sensor (MAF) needs cleaning or even replacement, and its remotely possible a transmission problem.

You could take the disco to a local garage and have them perform a pressure test on the engine cylinders.  It's also possible to pressure test the coolant system just to be safe.

If you've just purchased the vehicle, ask the previous owner about the problem.  If this is not possible, ask the dealership you purchased it from.  If you purchased the vehicle in N.America, most states and provinces would have a limited warranty (lemon law) of some sort.

I hope this helps,
