Land Rover Repair: Discovery 2001 strange noise and steering woes, coolant level, power steering pump

Question
The other day when I turned the engine off, I had a "Grunt" sound.
My steering is a little noisy when turning slowly in a tight circle.
Any comments?

Answer
Hi Mike,

Not sure about that noise.  Could be pressure being expelled or a leaked.  How's the engine temperature, coolant level?

Steering noise could be related to a failing CV joint or power steering pump problems.  Check to make sure fluid level is good and no strong odours from that fluid.

I had a problem with my PS pump (bearing failure) and the fluid had a strong odour.  Perhaps it was not circulated properly and overheated?  Eventually, it failed completely in a parking lot 60kms from home.  So check the fluid and look for any leakage.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
