Land Rover Repair: re-booting repaired landrover, landrover discovery, crank pulley

Question
My 1998 Landrover Discovery lost its ribbed belt and over-heated.  It shut itself down immediately.  We then replaced belt and water pump ourselves, but it does not turnover even though we recharged battery. What could be wrong vehicle? Does it need to be re-booted via computer by a mechanic? How is this done? Please, explain. Is this necessary? Or, can it be bypassed manually.

Answer
If you lost the belt and drove until the engine quit there is a high liklihood that the motor has been seriously damaged.

If the motor will not crank you may take a breaker bar and socket and attempt to turn the motor at the crank pulley.  If it does not turn, it's probably toast.

If it does turn, you have other issues.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
