Land Rover Repair: Brake Problems, abs brakes, hydraulic problem

Question
We just purchased a 1990 Range Rover County with the 3.9 and auto trans. The brakes on it are very stiff, you have to push with ALL your body wieght to stop the vehicle. The back brakes do not seem to be getting any pressure at all. I have tried bleeding the system, but it made NO difference. I think the problem may be electronic, hopefully you can tell me if this is an easy fix, if not can you tell me if it is possible to eliminate or bypass the computer or electronic controls to the brakes, or possibly replace the master cylinder with an aftermarket version.

Answer
It sounds like the electric pump that provides boost pressure has lost power, or burned out.  Or you may have some other hydraulic problem.

I strongly suggest buying a factory workshop manual before working on the system.  The 1990 County ABS brakes are different from both older and newer Rovers.
