Land Rover Repair: 2001 Disco II, rover v8, timing belts

Question
Dear John,

i have a couple questions for you:

*Do all 2001 Disco II's come stock with the airbags which can raise & lower the height of the car?
i looked at one for sale this weekend, owner indicated the car doesnt have that option. i looked inside on the dash to see if there was a button. did not see any

*at 80K miles. what should've already been done? ie timing belt/water pump. & what should be replaced soon?

thanks!

Answer
1) Discovery II models do not have air suspension that can raise and lower the car.  Discovery II models with 7-place seating often have air suspension in back to keep the vehicle level when heavily loaded.

The Range Rover has the adjustable height air suspension feature.

As to service at 80k miles, I suggest you look at the recommended services on our web site, www.robisonservice.com > service > land rover > advice

Labd Rover V8 motors do not have timing belts, and I'd agree with swapping the water pump.  But check out the other recommendations on our service site.  There are reprints of my magazine columns there, too.
