Land Rover Repair: ABS/TC/HDC lights, reluctor, ehub

Question
Just had my '01 Disco II diagnosed since the above mentioned
lights have remained on for a couple of days.  They said the
computer identifed it as thr right front wheel sensor.  They said
it's a 700.00 (CDN) part.  Two questions for you.... 1) Is it
currently safe to drive in normal summer conditions?   2) Is it
really a 700.00 part?  I've seen reference to sensors costing A
LOT less than that.

Answer
The car may or may not be safe to drive, depending on how it acts.  You will have to make that decision.

Sensors are available alone, or as part of the whole hub.  The complet ehub is the $700 CDN part you refer to.  Dealers like to change the whole hub because it contains the reluctor, which sends the signal to the sensor.  Actaully either the sensor or reluctor can be bad with the same code displayed.

You can take a change and buy the sensor alone for abou $90 CDN.

The sensor can be changed in 45 minutes, the whole hub takes a few hours.

So you've got two possible routes, depending on how you want to gamble.  I usually recommend people try the sensor alone because of the net $700 CDN cost differential.  But if that does not work, you blew $175 CDN to find out.
