Land Rover Repair: diagnosis, electronic diagnosis, abs brakes

Question
We have a  '97 LR Disco. If we take it to the dealer for a "check engine light" diagnosis, will everything that is wrong with the car come up in a list or will you have to fix each item before the next thing comes up on error code? thanks in advance!

Answer
The 97 Disco has computer aided diagnostics for engine, airbags, ABS brakes, and security alarm.  Everything else is diagnosed manually.

Furthermore, an electronic diagnosis often points to other tests.  For example, a code of "o2 sensor out of range" may indicate the sensor itself is bad, or it may mean that the signal from the sensor is out of the acceptable range as a result of some mechanical failure.

Therefore, diagnosis and repair are often step by step, iterative procedures.
