Land Rover Repair: discovery v8 immobiliser, landrover dealer, discovery 3

Question
Hi there. My 1996 Discovery 3.9 V8 has developed an immobiliser problem. Periodically it wouldn't demmobilise, if i left it for 10min's it'd go recently this has happened more frequently. i spoke with my local landrover dealer & was told it was probably the black box below the radio sometimes refered to as the spider. The dealer sold me a plug with loop wires on it to plug into the loom instead of the spider therefor bypassing it. ive fitted this and was suprised the car still immobilises its self when left with the door open, keys in ignition etc. An hour after doing this conversion i found the alarm  refusing to disarm, i changed the remote battery, even went to the trouble of removing the centre of the dash again and refitting the black box, ive tried entering the 4 digit code via the drivers door following the instructions, and i removed the battery lead for 3mins thinking it may need total power loss then rebooting a bit like a PC. If i hard wired the car staight from the ignition switch would it cause damage to the engines ECU? Any suggestions, or is there something ive missed? ive also checked the starter and  battery leads.

Answer
If you have a US market Rover, you probably need a new alarm ecu, which will have to be set up at the dealer.

Wiring directly from ignition switch to ecu will not get you started because the alarm has to send a digital code to the ecu for the vehicle to run.
