Land Rover Repair: Disco Starting Problems, decent workout, starter motor

Question
I have a problem with my 1988 Discovery that may simply be a fauly battery but here in Bosnia its rather difficult to get decent diagnonis. At present all I get when trying to start is a clicking sound, the engine does not fire up at all, should I investigate a new starter motor? the car is only doing very short runs although I try to give it a decent workout every week, its not too cold here these days and the battery has been charges and appears to have plenty of juice.

Answer
Your first step should be to determine that you've got at least 10.5 volts between the power lug on the starter and the engine block.  If you don't, you've got a problem in your battery or cables.

If you do, rap the starter with a hammer and see if it starts.  You may need a new one.
