Land Rover Repair: wont come out of park, landrover freelander, fuse tester

Question
I have a 2002 Landrover Freelander that won't come out of park.  Never had a
problem with it until today.  Could it be a blown fuse like I have read on other
vehicles?  We have tried turning the wheel and rocking the car, but nothing.
Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Sabrina,

it could be an electrical short in some wiring.  If you are lucky, you'll find that one of the exterior lights is not working properly.  Perhaps a rear tail light, turn signal, brake light.

Sometimes wiring leading from the front to the rear can become pinched or fray and thus cause a short.  Tracking down these types of problems is very time consuming so I hope it is an obvious problem.

Have you examined your fuses?  You can buy a fuse tester from most auto parts shops and test the fuses right in the fusebox.

Passenger compartment fusebox: F2 is the one you should check first.  Its a 15amp fuse for your brake pedal switch.

Sometimes, the brake pedal switch can short out (age, corrosion, ...) and you have to replace the switch completely.

I hope this helps,
