Land Rover Repair: Flashing odometer Disco II, mass airflow sensor, miles to km

Question
After replaced an alternator the Disco II odometer is flashing, but working fine. I'll try to press the trip button for more than two seconds to change miles to km, but nothing happened.

Answer
Hi Mauro,

check the alt installation.  Make sure the serpentine belt is correctly placed.  Flashing Odometer usually indicates an electrical problem has been detected somewhere.

I've heard about this when a fellow LR owner had trouble with his fuel pump.  Internal short in pump somehow triggered the odom to flash - also had great difficulty starting the engine (not your problem).

Another LR owner changed the MAF (Mass Airflow sensor) and saw this problem.  A salvaged MAF was used and it triggered the odom to flash.  Installation of new MAF corrected the problem.

SO...has to be something within the alt installaton.

Alternator: Bosch NC65/130 Maximum output 130 amp

Best of luck,
