Tires: wrong size tire installation, yukon xl, tire installation

Question
I had new tires installed on my 07 Yukon XL a few months ago. Since the installation I have had rubbing of the tires on the inside of the wheel well when I turn and also had to have a wheel bearing replaced. When the vehicle was in for the 'rubbing' the dealership discovered that the tires were an 1/8 of an inch too big, and that the tire store had installed the incorrect size. The vehicle manufacturer calls for 275/55/R20 and the tires that were installed are 275/60/R20. Could this improper size have caused the wheel bearing issue? Could it potentially cause an accident? First time dealing w a tire issue-sorry for any ignorance. thanks!

Answer
Jana,

The incorrect tire size would not have caused the bearing issue, so there was no potential for an accident from that.

However, rubbing can result in some issues - the most obvious of them is damage to both the tire and the vehicle - and some of those might result in an accident.  I suggest you get those tires replaced with something more suitable.
