Land Rover Repair: how do I clear service engine soon lights, obd ii scan tool, land rover freelander

Question
While driving up I-70 in my used 2002 Land Rover Freelander after a skiing trip in Colorado the car started losing power and sounded (and felt) like it was missing.  The engine shook and sputtered but kept running enough to get us home. Through all of this the engine shook and acted like a spark plug wire was loose. There was no loss of any fluid and the oil looked ok. The next morning I took the top engine cover off and looked at the top of the engine and found nothing wrong but after examining the back side of the engine found one injector unplugged and the retaining clip pulled from it. I plugged it in and applied the clip and it seems to have corrected the problem but the "service engine soon" light is still on. Is there any way to clear that light myself or do I need to pay the dealer to clear it?

Answer
If the problem you corrected was the only problem there was, the light will go out on its own after a few days of uneventful driving.

If the light is still on in a week there is more to the story, and you'll need to seek out a shop with an OBD II scan tool to read whatever codes are stored.

Remember that there will still be a stored code for the injector you plugged back in.   Tell the technicians you did that so they don't waste time diagnosing something that's fixed
