Land Rover Repair: 2001 Discovery SE Service Engine light, engine management system, vehcile

Question
How do I turn off the "Service the Engine Soon" light?

Answer
Hi Carlos,

in your owner's manual you'll note that this warning is associated with the engine management system and the emissions of your Disco.

It states that an incorrectly fitted fuel cap can cause this warning.  It also states that if your vehcile is functioning correctly, you can drive your Disco normally but to contact your dealer soon.  In this case, it's most likely an emissions reminder and the dealer will reset this after they have 'inspected' the vehicle.  IF your Disco is not functioning properly then there is a more serious problem that requires the LR diagnostic analysis (testbook) to investigate.

A visit to your local LR specialist can reset this - IF it's a reminder.

IF you're having engine troubles, you'll need to read the OBDII codes (a simple OBDII reader can do this) to reveal the faulted area(s).  Could be vacuum problems, O2 sensor failures...

Best of luck,

JohnMc
