Land Rover Repair: electrical short on freelander?, radiator fluid, fuse box

Question
Hi, I have a 2002 Freelander SE and for about the past year, I've noticed 2 things happening. I am not sure if they're related. The first is that occasionally when I start my truck, I get this high-pitch whining sound, almost like and electric high-pitched buzzing...it sounds electrical, not mechanical, coming from what seems to be the driver's side under the hood somewhere. It will last for about 20 seconds and eventually stop. It doesn't happen every time I start my truck; it's pretty random. It's also happened once or twice while just idling in traffic. The second thing is that for the past year or so, when I start my truck, the radio sound will shut off. The radio itself (the display) will remain on, but the sound goes out. If I tap the breaks a few times or open and close the door, the sound will come back. But later when I'm driving off down the road, and hit the breaks, it will cut out again. This game seems to stop after the truck gets going for a few miles. This seems to be becoming a more frequent happening, almost every time I start the truck these days. I have a feeling that since both of these happenings are not instantly repeatable and not very consistent, I might drive my Freelander out 30 miles to the nearest dealership for them to test it out and tell me I'm crazy because they can't find anything. I've read that Land Rover has a history of electrical problems. Could this be an electrical short somewhere? Also, in case this info helps, 2 days ago in my driveway while returning home, radiator fluid came gushing out from under my truck and the engine started smoking. I'm getting it towed to LR today and I'm sure they can fix whatever...it's under extended warranty. But I just wanted to mention it in case it has some relationship to my electrical problems. Also, my husband and I checked the fuses under the steering wheel and I think the fuse box under the hood and they all checked out fine. Thanks for your help!!!

Answer
Hello Tara,
I have never encountered that high pitched sound that you have descirbed, so I would probably have to hear it to be able to help you on that matter.
But I have replaced numerous radios for the problem you mentioned, but the problem could still be an electrical issue as you explained. But since the problem is'nt there when you get to the dealer it's extremely hard for them to diagnose the problem.
As for the coolant leak , ask your mechanic verify if combustion is getting in the coolant tank. Headgaskets might be blown or the whole engine might have failed.
sorry for the bad news
