Land Rover Repair: Gearbox Fault, land rover service, cold cranking amps

Question
I bought a 1999 Range Rover and I drove it for a couple of months and then send it over seas, it was driving very smoothly, It spent 2 months sailing, when it reached its destination, they report that there is a gear box fault and the car will only go reverse. there is no land Rover service or scanner there. can you help me?

Answer
A random "gearbox fault" message is often an indicator of a weak battery, especially after spending 2 months idle.  Replace the battery with the right one from Interstate (If you can find an interstate there) and that should cure it.

If there isn't an interstate, any battery with the right specs will work,

these are the specs you need for a GEMS engine

 Height:      9.38 inches
 Cranking Amps:      825
 Cold Cranking Amps:      660
 Voltage:      12
 Termination:      A

and for Bosch

Weight:      62.20 pounds
 Length:      13 inches
 Width:      6.75 inches
 Height:      9.38 inches
 Cranking Amps:      1190
 Cold Cranking Amps:      950
