Land Rover Repair: Transmission Whine and Wipers, pitched whine, wiper assembly

Question
I just purchased a 2000 Discovery, 4.0L with Automatic.

On deceleration in 2nd and 3rd gears there is a high pitched whine or whirl(car noises are tough to describe).  Transmission shifts fine, and just had all the drive train fluids changed, with no effect.

Just noticed the front wipers aren't working.  The washer works, and the "on request" or control pushed down will turn on the wipers.

Thanks
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,

sounds like a bearing has worn on the transfer gearbox.  Keeping it well lubricated (synthetic oil) is a good idea but eventually, it will have to rebuilt.

As for the wipers, the electrical harness is prone to corrosion and shorting out.  You'll probably have to replace the entire wiper assembly to fix this.

Best of luck,
