Land Rover Repair: 98 Disco RH rear window wont raise, door switch, hot wire

Question
1998 Disco -takes regular gas.
rear right window does not go up-tried to push it up manually but falls back down.  I think it's a motor problem.  Any chance I can just get it to go back up and stay up without having to spend a lot of $$ on fixing it?

Answer
Hi T Patton,

seems like to move the glass up but the bracket that lifts the window is stuck in the down position.  Could be the motor, could be a wire connection.  You could try by-passing the switch and apply 12volts direct to the motor and see if it raises.

You'll have to remove the door panel and plastic sheet to reveal the motor. From there, determine the 'hot' wire when the window switch is activated (centre console or door switch).  Just run a wire from your batter to the 'hot wire' and see if the motor will move the glass up.

IF it's the motor that's 'cooked' then you'll have to improvise.  You might consider lifting the glass into place then wedging something underneath the glass to prevent it from coming back down.  A temporary measure, I'm sure.

Best of luck,
